Elmfield School will not close

Bristol City Council has announced that Elmfield School for the Deaf
will not be closed afterall.

The Deaf community has been campaigning against the proposed closure
for more than a year, gaining 4,000 signatures on its petition within
two months.

The Council lead on education, Councillor Clare Campion-Smith has said
that the school can stay open but

“In order for Elmfield School to continue, it is important that it is
financially viable and can serve children who may have additional
learning or behaviour needs. ….. We will continue to keep all
services under review and respond to how parents make choices for
their children’s education.”
