We are currently looking for Disabled People who would like to volunteer for us for either a few hours a week or month. We are launching (Spring 2017) a new project to support people who feel intimidated by Employment Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments. We need volunteers who can accompany people to assessments to give moral support.
We offer all reasonable expenses paid, training, supervision and refreshments.
If you are of working age and become unwell or unable to work for work most of us will claim ESA. If your health needs or physical or mental health impairments are more enduring you may claim PIP. Going to assessments for these benefits can be nerve-wracking, you may feel unsure about what you should say, worry that you might forget something crucial or really not want to talk about your health problems to someone who isn’t your GP or consultant.
Bristol Disability Equality Forum cannot provide advice about claiming ESA or PIP but the new project will provide trained volunteers to accompany claimants to assessments.
If you would like to be involved, either directly helping people or with administrative back-up contact Juley, Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Forum. Telephone 0117 914 0528 and leave a message or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We need six more volunteers before we can launch this project, so why not get in touch to see if you could help. 21st March 2017.
